On top of NASA's list of purifying plants, the Areca palm (Chrysalidocarpus lutescens) is one of the most widely used palms for bright interiors. It features feathery, arching fronds, each with up to 100 leaflets. These big, bold plants command attention. Areca palms mature to 7 feet indoors with a lifespan of about 10 years.

Areca Palm
A key factor in successfully growing areca palm trees indoors is providing just the right amount of light. They need bright, indirect light from a south- or west-facing window. The leaves turn yellowish-green in direct sunlight. Water when the top 1"-2" of soil feels dry to touch. Use a slow-release fertilizer or a diluted solution of liquid fertilizer with waterings. Not difficult to maintain but will not tolerate neglect.
