What is the difference between indirect and direct light?Indirect light is the diffused light that enters your home through openings, such as windows. To better understand direct light, think of it this way: If you can see the sun with direct line of sight, it's direct light. Few houseplants would require direct light and would most likely scorch.

What is "evenly moist" and "boggy" or "wet soil"?"When watering, it is important to know the difference between soil that is "evenly moist" and soil that is "wet" or "boggy" in order to prevent root rot and infestation. To achieve a more perfect soil condition, start with a well draining soil mix. Prior to watering, use the knuckle test (insert your finger into the soil down to the first knuckle) to determine how dry the soil is. If your plant needs water, water it thoroughly until water trickles out the drainage holes. Allow all the water to drain from the pot before replacing it back into its decor pot. If you flood the pot and do not allow excess water to drain, you will have left the soil too wet, which will drown the roots and cause root rot.
